Quattrocento

The fifteenth is the century of Humanism, a movement recognized in the world as one of the most original and fruitful of the Italian cultural tradition; and it is the century during which vulgar literature was able to gradually understand the lessons of the great fourteenth-century masters, and to renew itself profoundly on the example of classical models. However, a non-superficial knowledge of the great works that it was able to inspire appears today to be the prerogative of a small, albeit international, gruop of specialists.This contribution, based on a systematic census of studies dedicated to fifteenth-century literature in the fifteen-year period 2001-2015, aims to shed light on this contrast between the dedication of many scholars, and a disinterest rarely so widespread among any other type of potential users.

Il Quattrocento è il secolo dell’Umanesimo, movimento riconosciuto nel mondo tra i più originali e fecondi della tradizione culturale italiana; ed è il secolo durante il quale la letteratura volgare seppe gradualmente comprendere la lezione dei grandi maestri trecenteschi, e rinnovarsi profondamente sull'esempio dei modelli classici. Tuttavia, una conoscenza non superficiale delle grandi opere che esso seppe ispirare appare oggi prerogativa di un ristretto, seppur internazionale, consesso di specialisti: e proprio sul contrasto tra la dedizione di tanti studiosi, e un disinteresse raramente così diffuso presso ogni altra tipologia di potenziali fruitori, si propone di far luce questo contributo, basato su un censimento sistematico degli studi dedicati alla letteratura quattrocentesca nel quindicennio 2001-2015.
