Nota per un nuovo manoscritto attribuibile alla mano di Bartolomeo Sanvito: il Casanatense 924

The manuscript Casanatense 924 has been examined since the late 19th century because of his significance for philological studies. It contains the collection of Italian poems of Petrarch and it was copied in the 15th century by a skilful scribe in a simple and calligraphic italic handwriting. Then it was annotated by various hands, till the 16th century. Among them, a mysterious scholar of the early sixteenth century added many emendations and marginalia, that seem to have been copied from the autograph manuscript Vat. lat. 3196, or from other original scattered poems and notes of Petrarch. In the manuscript there are also several corrections and textual variants made from the copyist himself (sometimes according with the original Canzoniere Vat. lat. 3195). Many annotations written by the copyist have been wrongly attributed to distinct scribes, because of some paleographic differences that can be checked there. Actually these differences should be ascribed to the stylistic evolution performed by the same copyist, as in my opinion he can be identified with Bartolomeo Sanvito of Padua (c. 1435 - 1511). According to the paleographic features that characterize his handwritings, the manuscript can be dated approximately at 1460. Moreover it is possible to argue that Sanvito annotated and corrected the text of the Casanatense 924 for a long period, maybe during his whole lifetime.

Il manoscritto Casanatense 924 è stato esaminato da numerosi studiosi fin dalla fine dell'Ottocento, a causa della sua importanza per gli studi filologici. Esso contiene la raccolta di poesie italiane di Petrarca esemplate nel Quattrocento da un abile copista di area veneta, e fu successivamente annotato, anche da altre mani, fino al XVI secolo. In particolare, un misterioso erudito del primo Cinquecento vi aggiunse numerose annotazioni che corrispondono o ampliano (probabilmente da "scartafacci" andati perduti) i celebri abbozzi autografi del Vat. lat. 3196. Il manoscritto contiene inoltre diverse correzioni e varianti testuali introdotte dal copista stesso (a volte traendole dall'originale del Canzoniere, ora Vat. lat. 3195). La mano che ha vergato il testo-base e numerose postille è attribuibile a Bartolomeo Sanvito (Padova, c. 1435 - 1511): in base alle caratteristiche grafiche riscontrabili, il testo del Casan. 924 è databile intorno al 1460 e le postille apposte da Sanvito dimostrano che il copista tenne con sé il codice almeno fino al Cinquecento e, forse, per tutta la vita.
