When Rosso and Primaticcio were decorating the gallery of Francis Ist at Fontainebleau, the king wanted Domenico da Cortona as the architect of an «ostel neuf de la ville» - a new City Hall in Paris. Through the analysis of the project and the historical context, the new City Hall is compared with other building sites in Parisand with the royal patronage of the 1530's, showing that Francis Ist wanted a sumptuous and convenient building. This should be part of the new self-representation strategy of the crown after the king's return from the Spanish captivity
