Due matrici tardo-arcaiche da Vulci. Ricerche in corso

This paper presents the preliminary results of the ongoing research on two late Archaic moulds, found during the investigations in Vulci, conducted by R. Mengarelli and U. Ferraguti between 1927 and 1932. The first item is the so-called “matrice per placchetta metallica” edited by P. Ducati in 1930, that has already attracted the attention of many scholars. Current investigations have established that the object does not belong to the grave goods from tomb XXV Osteria, breaking down also the different interpretations given by D.K. Hill in 1984. The second one is a mould for a female-head antefix, recovered fortuitously by Ugo Ferraguti in the “Monte Auto” area, 5 km north-west from Vulci. This isolated object may indicate the presence, in the area, of an extra-urban sanctuary.
