The article deals with the reconstruction of the domestic life of common women in the land of Aštata (Syria) during the Late Bronze age. In the middle Euphrates valley, archaeological salvage excavations from the 70th of the last century, uncovered large sectors of ancient settlements, such as Emar, Tell Bazi and Mumbaqa, where entire blocks of houses were brought to light in a good state of preservation. The retrieval of family archives in several buildings allowed an in-depth analysis of the family life in the region during the 14th-13th centuries BC. The presence of numerous legal texts dealings with family matters, such as wills and adoptions, provided a rich documentation in which women emerge as vivid characters, with a name and a story, and may be even attributed a “male” status (abbūtu – marūtu) in juridical terms, in order to preserve and protect the family in specific situations.

L'articolo ricostruisce la condizione femminile dai testi giuridici rinvenuto ad Emar e in altri archivi privati del paese di Astata, risalenti al Tardo Bronzo.
