Valentinus gnosticus: Note a Ref VI, 36, 6-8

In the framework of Valentinus’ conspicuous production, this article analyses in depth the complex fragment 8. Pointing out some of the major limits of the psalm’s prevalent interpretation, which aim at undermining its technically gnostic nature, the contribution emphasizes a structural consonance between fragment 8’s theology and the most representative features of Valentinianism, as it is testified by Irenaeus’ Great Notice. At the same time, the analysis brings out significant peculiarities, through which it will be possible to shed some light on the elusive figure of gnostic Valentinus.
