Lo storiografo e il retore. Nota su Goffredo Malaterra e Alberico di Montecassino

Geoffrey Malaterra utilized the metaphor of Martha and Marie, the personages of the Gospel, in the salutatio of his dedicatory epistle to bishop Angerius; this epistle was put at the beginning of his work De rebus gestis Rogerii Calabriae et Siciliae Comitis et Roberti Guiscardi Ducis fratris eius, wich was written before the end of the XI century. The biblical exemple was probably chosen following the precepts of Albericus of Montecassino’s Breviarium; this was the handbook of rhetoric wich gave rise to the ars dictaminis. The knowledge of the Breviarium on Geoffrey’s part is the first document of the Fortleben of Albericus’ text, whose success was until now witnessed only from the first half of the XII century.

Nella salutatio dell'epistola dedicatoria al vescovo Angerio del De rebus gestis Rogerii Calabriae et Siciliae Comitis et Roberti Guiscardi Ducis fratris eius, scritto entro la fine del sec. XI, Goffredo Malaterra utilizza la metafora evangelica di Marta e Maria. Questo exemplum biblico fu scelto molto probabilmente sulla scorta dei precetti del Breviarium di Alberico di Monteccasino, quel corpus di testi che verso il 1084-1085 inaugura la tradizione dell' ars dictaminis. La conoscenza del Breviarium da parte di Goffredo Malaterra (resa plausibile anche da altri probabili prestiti) costituisce la prima testimonianza del Fortleben del testo di Alberico, di cui finora si avevano tracce solo a partire dal sec. XII.
