Throughout the world, numerous organisations and institutions are concerned with ‘Grand Challenges’. Interactions among heterogeneous fields of research, industries, and institutions are strictly needed to foster a cascade of innovations, which are good for the overall society, while addressing key global problems, such as health and development. Open innovation could play a critical role for R&D and Grand Challenges, because its paradigm seems to naturally fit with the intrinsic nature of this category of goals. “From networks to industry and society” is the ideal trajectory of this session. Papers offering original insights on current topic are strongly encouraged. Fresh literature reviews, conceptual models or empirical evidences are welcome, as well as those contributions adopting a multidisciplinary approach.
