The Department of Chemistry of the Sapienza University of Rome is proud to announce the Third Symposium for Young Chemists: Innovation and Sustainability (SYNC 2026) that will be held in Rome from 15 to 18 June 2026. SYNC 2026 symposium is a unique gathering designed specifically for PhD students and early-stage researchers. Our symposium aims to foster international collaborations among young chemists, bringing together people from diverse universities across Europe and, potentially, from around the world. Together, we seek to advance the frontiers of chemistry through shared exploration and collaboration. Building on the success of the first and second SYNC editions (2022-2024), which saw the enthusiastic participation of more than 330 young chemists from 23 European and extra-European countries, SYNC 2026 aspires to foster long-term sharing of research, promote the mobility of PhD students, and encourage the development of innovative projects in response to local, regional, and global challenges. Our focus on the new generations and the international character of our participants is geared towards creating a transversal society, united in the pursuit of the common good and capable of overcoming barriers associated with all forms of diversity. We invite you to explore the conference themes, which span from fundamental chemistry to applicative research in a variety fields of application. We look forward to welcoming you in Rome next June for the SYNC 2026 Symposium. Conference Theme Theme A – Advances in Organic Chemistry Theme B – Advances in Physical and Colloids Chemistry Theme C – Advances in Analytical Chemistry Theme D – Advances in Inorganic Chemistry and Functional Materials Theme E – Energy, Environment and Sustainability Theme F – Biomaterials and Chemical Biology

SYNC 2022 – First Symposium for YouNg Chemists: Innovation and Sustainability The First Symposium for YouNg Chemists (SYNC 2022) was an international scientific conference organized by the Department of Chemistry at Sapienza University of Rome and held in Rome from 20 to 23 June 2022. The event evolved from the Department’s biennial Young Researchers Conference and was designed to provide PhD students and early-stage researchers with an opportunity to present their scientific work, exchange ideas, and foster collaborations among research groups and institutions. The 2022 edition focused on innovation and sustainability and highlighted the role of chemistry in addressing major local and global challenges related to climate, the environment, energy, health, cultural heritage, and technological innovation. The scientific programme covered a broad range of topics, including materials for health, environment and energy, polymers and biopolymers, circular economy, green chemistry, smart sensors, fundamental chemistry, and chemical solutions to societal challenges. Participants presented their research through oral communications and poster sessions, while internationally recognized scientists from several European universities and research institutions contributed with plenary lectures. The conference provided an international platform for young chemists to share their research, develop new scientific connections, and explore interdisciplinary approaches to contemporary challenges in chemistry and sustainability. The conference also included the MasterClass “Writing a MSCA Grant Proposal”, which was specifically aimed at supporting young researchers in developing skills for the preparation of competitive European research proposals.
