This empirical study aimed at assessing the effects of early foreign language learning in preschoolers on general metalinguistic abiliites and in metaphor comprehension. An experimental and a control group 4 to 6 year-old children were recruited and administered a comprehensive metalinguistic ability test and a task of metaphor comprehension both devised for this age range. The experimental children significantly outperformed the controls in both tasks and at any age.

Abstract
