FGrHist 790 F 5. Filone di Biblo e il mito di Crono

The paper discusses a short fragment from the second book of Philo of Byblos’ Phoenician Histories, about the myth of Kronos (FGrHist 790 F 5 = John the Lydian, On Months 4. 154, p. 170, 3 Wünsch) and compares it with an anonymous Phoenician tradition regarding Kronos and Zeus, where Kronos is identified with Chronos, “Time” (also reported by John the Lydian, On Months 4. 71, p. 123, 1 ss. Wünsch). The similarities between these two passages, as well as the comparison with the succession myth of Kronos reported at length in the surviving sections of the first book of Philo’s work, suggest that the anonymous Phoenician myth could be ascribed to Philo.

L'articolo discute un breve frammento dal secondo libro delle Storie Fenicie di Filone di Biblo a proposito del mito di Crono (FGrHist 790 F 5 = Giovanni Lido, Sui mesi 4. 154, p. 170, 3 Wünsch), e lo confronta con una tradizione fenicia anonima su Crono e Zeus, nella quale Crono è identificato con Chronos, il Tempo (anch'essa riportata da Lido, Sui mesi 4. 71, p. 123, 1 ss. Wünsch). Le somiglianze tra questi due passi, oltre al confronto con il mito sulla successione di Crono, narrato nel primo libro dell'opera di Filone, suggeriscono che la tradizione fenicia anonima può essere attribuita a Filone.
