Tempo, spazio e memoria nei Canti di Leopardi

Starting from desert places in ruins (All’Italia), the poetry of Giacomo Leopardi gradually enriches the space around it with its ability to imagine; in the first period of the Canti, this ability is presented as a power that can fill the nothingness and thus lay hold of it. This contemplative journey crossing the border (la «siepe») that divides the space in two parts (L’infinito), will take Leopardi to the discovery of the poetical split; this discovery will lead him, when he will be living in Pisa and Recanati, to the «poetica della ricordanza», although when he will finally be back to his roots (Le ricordanze), Leopardi will find out the mere nothingness of his experience of life: a journey through space makes familiar what used to be uknown.
