Abstract
Wayfinding is a set of instructions for the use of places. Orienting in an environment is one of the most complex abilities based on the contribution of several cognitive functions, including memory, attention, perception and decision-making. The concept of wayfinding comprises the modalities of intervention on the built environmentin a coordinated manner with the design of directional and information systems. After presenting a general and user-dependent overview of the problems related to the orientation in complex buildings, the article illustrates, through some applications, a detailed analysis of the innovative materials used in the field of wayfinding, with particular reference to materials that offer sensory performance finalized to enhancing the stimuli reaction capabilities, and taking into account the potential of the new technologies as well as their conscious use.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
