This work grew out of the following question: why do we find the elliptical form in architecture only in the baroque period? To answer this question we considered the historical development of the conic sections and then looked for the interactions in the baroque period with art, astronomy and mathematics. The article describes an experimental approach to the topic carried out with students in their last year of high school.
