Updating Data and Knowledge Bases (Tutorial)

In this tutorial, we aim at depicting the state of the art of the research on data and knowledge bases, which is most closely related to the problem of updating OBDM systems. Hence, we will retrace the main outcomes of investigations carried on problems that range from the view update problem, the problem of updating logical theories, and the problem of updating Description Logic knowledge bases. In particular, we will highlight “negative” results which are likely to affect the design of effective and practical solutions to finally enable updates over OBDM systems.
