Dai', 'da' na mano!' Tra il dire e il chiedere: l'uso del segnale discorsivo 'dai' in conversazioni in famiglia/The Italian discursive signal 'dai' (Eng: 'come on') in family conversations, between saying and requesting

The paper analyzes the use of the discourse marker dai (idiomatic translation “come on) in directive sequences between parents and children collected during family mealtime interactions. The work shows how the pragmatic device inhabits sequential contexts, in which the recipient is not oriented toward the course of action to which the request refers, that is, when participants do not share the participatory framework and when a certain kind of resistance can be anticipated from the recipient. The paper shows the extent to which the dai marker works as a modulator of affect (from encouragement to critique) and, at the same time , how it can open space of negotiation between parents and children as regards the management of individual responsibilities. The paper finally consider the findings in light of practices of socialization, proposing that it supports the cultural preference (common in middle –class families in western contexts), toward acknowledging the child as an agent and willful individual even in contexts in which he is asked to comply.

The L’articolo analizza l’impiego del segnale discorsivo dai in sequenze direttive tratte da interazioni a tavola (o in prossimità della cena) tra genitori e figli. Il lavoro mostra come il marcatore occupi contesti sequenziali caratterizzati da mancato orientamento del ricevente verso il corso d’azione nel quale la richiesta di fare si inserisce, e nel caso in cui il quadro di partecipazione sia frammentario o sia preventivabile una forma di resistenza. I lavoro discute gli effetti di modulazione del marcatore (lungo l’asse positivo-negativo che va dall'incoraggiamento al biasimo) e al tempo stesso sottolinea come si tratti di un dispositivo che consente di lasciare aperti spazi di negoziazione tra genitori e figli nella gestione delle responsabilità individuali, lasciando trasparire la preferenza per un modello di socializzazione in cui al bambino è riconosciuto un certo ambito di agentività e autodeterminazione anche nella possibilità di opporsi
