Of the biradiate desmid species Staurastrum multinodulosum Grönblad, originally described from Silesia, only a few, partly doubtful records are known. In Lago di Giulianello (Lazio, Italy) it appears to be a common, often abundant plankter. Its morphological characteristics are elucidated with the help of SEM pictures and the taxonomic delimitation with some morphologically much resembling species, among which Staurastrum nodulosum Grönblad and Staurastrum caledonense Hub.-Pest., is discussed.

Abstract
Of the biradiate desmid species Staurastrum multinodulosum Grönblad, originally described from Silesia, only a few, partly doubtful records are known. In Lago di Giulianello (Lazio, Italy) it appears to be a common, often abundant plankter. Its morphological characteristics are elucidated with the help of SEM pictures and the taxonomic delimitation with some morphologically much resembling species, among which Staurastrum nodulosum Grönblad and Staurastrum caledonense Hub.-Pest., is discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
