In this paper, relationships among ethnography, cinema, narrative and memory are taken into consideration. These elements are intertwined in a research path of filmic anthropology, in which the protagonist is a Calabrian shepherd who present the story of his life. In this work I hypothesized to activate the “anachronistic” nature of ethnographic object-subject: carrying out - as George Didi-Huberman writes – “an extraordinary assembly of heterogeneous times”. I chose to use cinema as a narrative form suitable to synthesize the experience, working through the creative process of editing, in order to bring out chronological relationships and stratifications of the narrative, to activate the temporal gates which are opened by the mechanisms of memory, to connect the complex plot of the present to the past. Ethnography and story are-in this sense-complementary: they feed off each other giving rise to a narrative ethnography and an ethnographic narrative. Both flow into the project of filmic ethnography that is described in this paper.

Abstract
Both flow into the project of filmic ethnography that is described in this paper.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
