Between the nineteenth and twentieth century, the assertion of a rapid increase in scientific and technological progress favored a resumption of construction and urban planning in the major European capitals. In Naples, a major boost in this period were associated measures to facilitate the streets of connection cable between the ancient city and the new area of expansion on the hill of Vomero. The funiculars assumed, in fact, an important role in enhancing the landscape value of the hill from which you could see a wide view of the gulf. The contribution aims to document the transformations that the stations and plants have undergone in the course of successive upgrades in the hope that the documentation can be a tool for the understanding and preservation of the places in which it identifies the collective memory of a town.

Tra il XIX e il XX secolo l’affermarsi di un rapido incremento del progresso scientifico e tecnologico favorì una ripresa dell’attività edilizia e urbana nelle maggiori capitali europee. A Napoli un notevole impulso in questo periodo ebbero gli interventi relativi a facilitare le vie di collegamento su fune tra la città antica e la nuova zona di ampliamento sulla collina del Vomero. Le funicolari assunsero, infatti, un ruolo importante rafforzando anche il valore paesaggistico della collina da cui si apriva una ampia vista sul golfo. Il contributo si propone di documentare le trasformazioni che le stazioni e gli impianti hanno subito nel corso dei successivi ammodernamenti nell’auspicio che la documentazione possa essere uno strumento per la conoscenza e la salvaguardia dei luoghi in cui si identifica la memoria collettiva di una città.
