At present, the available information on the algal microflora of the italian salt works are extremely few. In this contributionthe authors describe a first group of twnty-five species of Bacillariophyceae collected during a one-year research on the microflora of the salt works of Tarquinia (Italy). Of each species a brief description and one or more microphotographs are given.
