Recent discoveries in the area west of Jerusalem at Khirbet Qeiyafa have provided, together with fresh data on a cantonal cultural horizon in a crucial period between the 11 th and the 10 th century BC, also a fierce debate, again and again linked to the classic topic of Biblical Archaeology of the historicity of David and his enterprises – i.e. the origins of the Israelite monarchy and related Iron Age chronology. This case, together with the nearby excavations at Khirbet al-Muqanna (the Philistine Ekron) and Tell es-Safi (the Philistine Gath), illustrates perils and opportunities of different historical and archaeological approaches to archaeological record.

Abstract
Recent discoveries in the area west of Jerusalem at Khirbet Qeiyafa have provided, together with fresh data on a cantonal cultural horizon in a crucial period between the 11 th and the 10 th century BC, also a fierce debate, again and again linked to the classic topic of Biblical Archaeology of the historicity of David and his enterprises – i.e. the origins of the Israelite monarchy and related Iron Age chronology. This case, together with the nearby excavations at Khirbet al-Muqanna (the Philistine Ekron) and Tell es-Safi (the Philistine Gath), illustrates perils and opportunities of different historical and archaeological approaches to archaeological record.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
