Il tempio di piazza della Liberazione e il culto di Giunone a Praeneste. Aspetti, funzioni e significati

Excavations carried out between 2001 and 2002 in the center of Palestrina led to the discovery of some structures and a small votive deposit. An investigations upgrade, concluded in 2010, allowed to recognize the plant of an italic temple, located few tens meters from the forum of the ancient city. The new data permitted to define the topographic arrangement of the sanctuary, to read again the chronology, to reconstruct the temple’s plan, and finally, to clarify the nature and composition of the votive deposit. The review of the context offered the possibility to reflect again on the worship’s contents and meanings and on the tutelary deity’s nature. This allowed to understand some important elements related to the offers regime which, as a whole, refers to the female sacral sphere and can also be interpreted in a wider context.
