Objectives SENTIERI KIDS project examines for the first time child health at Italian National Priority Contaminated Sites-NPCSs, with a multi-outcome approach based on mortality, hospitalizations and cancer incidence data. As part of the collaboration between National Institute of Health (ISS) and the Italian Association of Cancer Registries (AIRTUM), this first contribution provides a description of cancer risk in children living in NPCSs. Methods The study includes 23 NPCS and is based on standardized incidence ratios (SIR) and 90% confidence intervals (CI). The reference is the national pool of Cancer Registries (CR), 1996-2005; residents in NPCSs are excluded from the calculation of expected figures. The study focuses on all malignant tumours (MT), tumors of blood and lymphatic system (BLS), leukaemia (Leu), lymphoma (Lin), and of central nervous system (CNS), according to the classification ICCC3 .
