The construction of identity is a central topic in linguistic studies, so much so that English is adopted in most professional encounters which call for the fulfillment of many factors: the transfer of information, the creation and distribution of knowledge, the affirmation of ideologies, the comparison of cultures. The contribution described the European institutional identity emerging from the speeches delivered by Barroso, Schauble and Orban (non-native speakers of English).
