Countries around the world face a challenge that came as a result of the shift to an economy based on knowledge: the acknowledgement of the urban nature of smart cities as unfolded by the relationship between space, new technologies and social practices. In this dimension, this paper is a multidisciplinary research that proposes a dual vision on the impact of new technologies: it looks at the integration of ICT in physical space (architecture) and the way this process enables changes in social practices (communication). It is an attempt to make the passage from the smart city conceived as a digital network to a space that has a consolidated social structure and identity.

Abstract
Countries around the world face a challenge that came as a result of the shift to an economy based on knowledge: the acknowledgement of the urban nature of smart cities as unfolded by the relationship between space, new technologies and social practices. In this dimension, this paper is a multidisciplinary research that proposes a dual vision on the impact of new technologies: it looks at the integration of ICT in physical space (architecture) and the way this process enables changes in social practices (communication). It is an attempt to make the passage from the smart city conceived as a digital network to a space that has a consolidated social structure and identity.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
