This paper analyses how the growing use of social media among political actors (and the decrease in journalists' mediating function) changes the process of political information and its negotiations The research focuses on the first 100 days of Matteo Renzi’s administra¬tion, analyzing how Italian newspapers, TV news services and press agencies used Prime Minister’s tweets in their coverage of national political situation. The research specifically considers: a) Twitter’s role as a newsmaker; b) the factors affecting the life-cycle of Renzi’s tweets; c) the different reactions (in term of visibility and impact) to his Twitter activity across mediasphere and twittersphere; d) the changes during the period of electoral campaign which affected both the media’s attitude to Renzi’s tweets and Renzi’s twitting style itself. L'articolo analizza come la diffusione dei social media tra gli attori politici, e il conseguente indebolimento della funzione di mediazione svolta dai giornalisti, modifichi sotto vari aspetti i processi di produzione delle informazioni politiche e le negoziazioni che li caratterizzano. L’indagine si focalizza sui primi 100 giorni del governo Renzi, esaminando i tweet del premier e, parallelamente, gli articoli giornalistici e i servizi sui telegiornali riferiti a tali tweet. Tre le direttrici che hanno orientato la ricerca: il ruolo di Twitter come fonte informativa; i fattori che influiscono sul ciclo di vita dei tweet; le diverse reazioni (visibilità e successo dei tweet) tra mediasfera e twittersfera; i cambiamenti riguardanti il periodo di campagna elettorale.
