A systematic review and meta.analysis of nicergoline compared with placebo and other active agents across various indications to evaluate the safety profile. the studies included were 29 mostly devoted to the use of nicergoline in cerebrovascular disease, other studies were performed on dementia patients. Nicergoline is an ergot derivative but its safety profile is better than the one obtained by other ergot derivatives. No cases of fibrosis or ergotism were found reported in the clinical studies included in the review.
