Biosensors based on surface plasmons have shown to be reliable and highly sensitive platforms. Here we investigate the feasibility and the potential of an alternative platform for biological sensing based on Bloch surface waves sustained by a one-dimensional photonic crystal made of dielectric materials. © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media.
