Abstract
Currently, in the European Union (EU) two parallel regulatory frameworks allow the use of botanicals in both food supplements and medicinal products: the decision on legal framework depends on the manufacturer’s intended use of the product, if physiologic or therapeutic. In this work Food supplements EU legislation will be reviewed, followed by a discussion of ongoing efforts towards harmonisation in the use of botanicals or botanical-derived products as food ingredients, ending with a description of the Italian system of post-marketing surveillance.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
