In the religious and monastic panorama of Rome in the early modern and modern age, a specific role was that of the nunnery of the Very Saint Annunziata all'Arco dei Pantani, built to receive the neophytes, i.e. the women who had converted from another religion, who were then baptized according to the Christian rite and wished to become nuns. The foundation of this cloister was part of the strategy put in place by the Catholic Church in order to convert heterodox souls or "infidels" (Jews and Muslims) into Christianity. Precisely because of this specificity it was destined to acquire a fundamental importance in the Rome. Moreover, together with the House of the Catechumens and the College of Neophytes, the nunnery was one of the pins of the policy of conversion and "containment" of the Roman Jewish people.

Nel panorama religioso e monastico della Roma di età moderna, un ruolo a sé ricoprì il monastero della Ss. Annunziata all’Arco dei Pantani, sorto per ricevere le neofite ossia le donne che si erano convertite da un’altra religione, erano state poi battezzate secondo il rito cristiano e desideravano monacarsi. La fondazione di questo chiostro si inserisce nell’atmosfera di conquista di anime eterodosse o di “infedeli” (ebrei e musulmani) al cristianesimo da parte della Chiesa cattolica e proprio per tale sua specificità fu destinato ad acquisire un’importanza fondamentale nel territorio romano. Inoltre, insieme alla Casa dei Catecumeni e al Collegio dei Neofiti, il monastero costituì uno dei perni della politica di conversione e “contenimento” degli ebrei romani.
