Architettura e autorità nella Cina della dinastia Zhou (1122-221 a. C.)

My paper aims at an examination of architecture related to power during the long Zhou dynasty. Historical significance of this argument have not been clarified enough and complete the artistic evolution of this period. Art and science had flourished during Zhou domain not only in capital cities but also all over the country, so the architecture of the ruling class was even more emphasized. The large tombs, the palaces, the mingtang, were useful for the leaders independent from their patrons. Their usefulness was not only practical but enhanced the prestige of political class. Therefore it should be natural that the idea of an art useful for a state originated early in the Zhou era and was a part of building a Chinese nation.
