This article reads over again the socio-cultural phenomenon of British youth movements, particularly the "punk". It is originally based on a research on the field carried out by the Author in 1980. At the time, the study focused both the “structural” factor of a their common belonging to working class families; and the “cultural” one, based upon the strategy of a symbolic “resistence” to the establishment . This new version emphasizes how fashion and music played a crucial role in constructing the antagonism of these social actors. Fashion was a mask which reflected the ugly face of English society and power. The awful Punk Music was the expression of their unadjusted social roles. This article also shows some differences and similarities with other, earlier, juvenile countercultural movements, like the mods, and even today’s street-artists. The latters have been approached by the Author in the first decade of Third Millennium, in Orvieto region in Italy. Their alternative lifestyles have been built along their biography, in the option for a living and an art without institutional obligations. For being nomads of present time.
Questo articolo rilegge il fenomeno socio-culturale dei movimenti giovanili inglesi, in particolare quello del punk. Si basa inizialmente su una ricerca sul campo eseguita dall'Autrice nel lontano 1980. All’epoca, lo studio ha analizzato sia il fattore "strutturale" di una loro comune appartenenza a famiglie operaie; e quello "culturale", basato sulla strategia di una "resistenza simbolica” all’establishment. Questa nuova versione del saggio originario sottolinea come la moda e la musica abbiano giocato un ruolo cruciale nella costruzione dell'antagonismo di questi attori sociali. La moda era una maschera che rifletteva la brutta faccia della società inglese del tempo. La loro terribile musica era l'espressione del vuoto dei loro ruoli sociali. Il presente contributo evidenzia anche alcune differenze e somiglianze con le altre, precedenti, controculture giovanili inglesi, come i mods, e anche con i cosmopoliti street-artists di oggi.
