This essay is a thorough investigation about the style and chronology of a group of Buddhist stone sculptures unearthed at the Fengxiansi monastery site, behind the Longmen grottoes in the proximity of the Weiwan village (Henan province, China), within the context of Tang buddhist art in the area of the two capitals. The author was part of the excavation team (being engaged, in particular, in the study of the objects found in the excavation) from 1997 to 2003. The dating of the sculptures is based on stylistical and iconographical comparisons and the analysis of historical and epigraphical evidence.

Questo breve saggio è uno studio stilistico e cronologico delle sculture buddiste in pietra rinvenute nello scavo del sito del monastero Fengxian-si situato dietro le grotte di Longmen nelle vicinanze del villaggio di Weiwan (Luoyang, Henan, Cina), inserite nel contesto dell'arte buddista di epoca Tang nell'area delle due capitali. L'autore ha fatto parte della missione di scavo (1997-2003) del monastero in funzione di esperta di geografia storica dell'area, e di arte buddista. Le sculture sono state datate per la maggior parte, sulla base di raffronti stilistici e iconografici e l'esame di fonti storiche ed epigrafiche.
