In 1956, the Italian magazine Il Ponte, dedicated a special number to a visit that a group of leftist Italian intellectuals had made in China the year before. This special issue, entitled "Today's China", was one of the first Italian attempt to describe post-Mao China's situation. This article try to summerise Today's China's contents and to highlight the most important contributions of the single authors who write for this special issue, in order to better understand what were the prejudices and opinions about China in the minds of those influential intellectuals.

Abstract
