Counteracting cancer cachexia-related inflammation: It takes systemic strategies to treat a systemic syndrome

This review seeks to point out the relevance of therapies aimed at counteracting the systemic manifestations of cancer cachexia. Exercise training appears to be a low-cost, safe, antiinflammatory strategy, which seems to be able to affect most of the symptoms related to this paraneoplastic syndrome. The possible association of exercise with nutritional therapy, with special focus on L-carnitine, is discussed. © 2012 SINPE-GASAPE.
