Recent studies have documented a tendency among geographers to reduce their use of maps. Research conducted in the framework of the present study confirms this finding. Possible causes and consequences of this phenomenon are discussed, and a number of contradictions are touched upon, pertaining to geographers' attitudes to maps in an era characterized by a boom in the use of visual tools both in lay and scientific circles. The phenomenon in question can be observed in the field of political geography as well - a field that has been greatly affected by critical geopolitics and its theoretical insights regarding the way in which we make maps, interpret and use them.

Abstract
Recent studies have documented a tendency among geographers to reduce their use of maps. Research conducted in the framework of the present study confirms this finding. Possible causes and consequences of this phenomenon are discussed, and a number of contradictions are touched upon, pertaining to geographers' attitudes to maps in an era characterized by a boom in the use of visual tools both in lay and scientific circles. The phenomenon in question can be observed in the field of political geography as well - a field that has been greatly affected by critical geopolitics and its theoretical insights regarding the way in which we make maps, interpret and use them.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
