During the revision of the educational of the Faculty, the problem was raise concerning the declarations of both courses and programs. It was of a good opportunity to reflect on the courses of Mathematics in the Faculty, considering that their impact on students is greater than the sense of "service course" that this teaching has in the curriculum studies. For this reason, we organized a workshop that took place in Valle Giulia on November 11, 2009, to which both mathematicians and architects attended. The purpose of the workshop was to gather the two categories, begin to compare their points of view, but also their respective languages and methods, with the aim tocritically explore together further possible alternatives that could be taken into account. At the workshop participated in order: Pier Paolo Balbo, Benedict Todaro, Roberto de Rubertis, Rocco Sinisgalli, Roberto Monaco, Danilo Capecchi, Bruno Firmani, Valerio Vassallo, Giuseppe Accascina, Enrico Rogora, Mario Barra. The debate is far from concluded: on one hand there are those who believe that the current teaching is essential both for the formation of the future architect and for the understanding of the problems and methods of structural computation, on the other hand it is considered that the technical approach does not take in due account the massive intervention of computers in computations or or leave space to other aspects of mathematics that may have a significant role in the architectural composition, urbanism or urban planning. Abstract
