Water tribololoy is a relevant branch of tribology, it is sufficient to think of the diverse cases of tribological couplings in water environment. It is therefore important to study the materials in tribological coupling but it is still more important to study the mechanism that allows the formation of the supporting meatus between two surfaces in couplings i.e. produces an efficient lubrication condition. In this work which has been developed by the author for many years a large number of tribological couplings is examined and an innovative method for an efficient lubricant condition, based on the difference of material wettability is proposed. Materials with different wettabilities (the wettability of each material was measured using the model of the contact angle θ ) and with two different roughness intervals Ra (0.003-0.08) and Ra (0.08-3) were taken into consideration. Wear tests (ASTM 99G) of tribological couplings among materials with different wettabilities, were performed with a pin-on disc tribometer. The test has be realized in air environment, under the following conditions: dry and water lubrication using demineralised water as a lubricant. From the wear test results and from the electronic microscope observation, the following result was obtained: the higher is the wettability difference (Δθ) between coupling materials, the more efficient is the lubricant condition, i.e. a stable supporting meatus is formed.
