As to language and subject, the fragmentary hexameters of P.Oxy. I, 8 recall choral lyric poetry; in the last century they were ascribed even to Alcman. A close stilistic and linguistic analysis, on the contrary, suggests that they were probably composed in the Hellenistic age, according to the foregoing poetic tradition.
