This paper examines the reaction of the Chinese Government to the Michelangelo Antonioni’s documentary film, Chung-kuo, shot in 1973. The fil was banned and Antonioni became the target of a criticism campaign, launched by the pages of People’s Daily. Were these har attacks indications of internal conflicts in the CCP or were they violent –indirect – criticism to the “revisionist and socialimperialist” policy adopted by the Italian Communist Party as judged by the CCP?
