The paper aims to provide an overview of Chinese readings of Dante’s works in the past century. The Chinese interpretation was late and fragmentary: late because the Chinese lecture of Dante’s works started only at the end of 19th century, and fragmentary because the Chinese attention was turned exclusively to the Divine Comedy. The first part of the paper follows the chronological development of Chinese interpretation of Dante’s poem, the second part analyses some recent translations of the Comedy and their interpretive problems.

Abstract
The paper aims to provide an overview of Chinese readings of Dante’s works in the past century. The Chinese interpretation was late and fragmentary: late because the Chinese lecture of Dante’s works started only at the end of 19th century, and fragmentary because the Chinese attention was turned exclusively to the Divine Comedy. The first part of the paper follows the chronological development of Chinese interpretation of Dante’s poem, the second part analyses some recent translations of the Comedy and their interpretive problems.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
