A skull with mandible from the karst filling deposit of Monte Argentario (Tuscany) is described and discussed in the frame of the systematics and biochronology of the Eurasianjaguar. The reviewing of all the fossil material from Monte Argentario is in progress, and the occurrence of a leopard in the late Villafranchian fauna from Monte Argentario is probably due to a misidentification of the specimen described here. The Eurasian jaguar was a sexually dimorphic cat and, judging by its size, the felid from Monte Argentario could be referred to a female specimen.

Abstract
A skull with mandible from the karst filling deposit of Monte Argentario (Tuscany) is described and discussed in the frame of the systematics and biochronology of the Eurasianjaguar. The reviewing of all the fossil material from Monte Argentario is in progress, and the occurrence of a leopard in the late Villafranchian fauna from Monte Argentario is probably due to a misidentification of the specimen described here. The Eurasian jaguar was a sexually dimorphic cat and, judging by its size, the felid from Monte Argentario could be referred to a female specimen.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
