The essay provides an overview of the illuminated bibles produced in Franceand England in the 13th century. After the important phase of the Romanesque bibles, in the 13th century the production of gothic bibles exploded to the extent that it saturated the market, so that bibles made in the 14th century are extremely rare. The city in which this extraordinary book market started was Paris, where not only the most famous faculty of theology of Europe was established, but where important studa of the mendicant orders flourished; their role in the development of different types of bibles related to the study and consultation of the text appears essential. Il saggio fornisce un quadro sintetico sulle bibbie miniate in area transalpina nel XIII secolo. Dopo la grande stagione delle bibbie romaniche, nel Duecento esplode la produzione di bibbie gotiche, realizzate in numeri talmente elevati da saturare il mercato, al punto che quelle eseguite nel XIV secolo sono decisamente rare.
