This paper presents an overview family patterns that have gone establishing itself in the contemporary era . We will refer to the concept of family , we will describe the evolution of family patterns and the causes that led to the pluralisation of such models. We will use statistical data on the composition of families , the use of time , organization of daily activities (time spent at home and away for study and work) to describe how the new styles of life have played a decisive role in the fragmentation of the ways of 'doing family ' (comparison between Italian and European countries). What are the social actors involved by these changes ? How to have changed gender and the inter-generational relations? These empirical data assume a specific connotation especially in metropolitan areas and big city where the family delegation to the school and other agencies of socialization (which are multiplying in number and in terms of proposals for socialization) the task of accompanying their children in the educational, assuming the role of agencies of socialization. The new styles of life of individuals then bring out the fragility of role (parenting) and relational weaknesses (parents, parents / children). It thus remains to ask how individuals construct their identity. Confronted with such roles? In which social relations? A reading key is the use of new media that involve even the youngest and now, in addition to offering exciting opportunities for communication, allow individuals to compete with new and multiple identity paths.
