The main objective of the present work is to analyze how Latin American migrants who live in Rome perceive, represent and build identities in the discursive production of space -understood as an indexical process that points at social meanings- in sociolinguistic interviews, from a qualitative socio-discursive perspective anchored in social constructivism with the aim of shedding light on less studied aspects of the binominal language-identity. The sociolinguistic interview provides stories about personal life without prior preparation and it offers the researcher and the researched a privileged environment for the construction of identity. The narrator’s identity emerges from the content of the story itself and from the mode in which the story is told: the linguistic, interactive, stylistic and rhetoric choices used to narrate. The interviewees feelings of assimilation towards or reaction against a linguistic, social and cultural group is manifested through the selection of linguistic and rhetoric resources, culturally determined, which in turn, by an indexical relationship, refer to specific referents in the social context.

Abstract
The interviewees feelings of assimilation towards or reaction against a linguistic, social and cultural group is manifested through the selection of linguistic and rhetoric resources, culturally determined, which in turn, by an indexical relationship, refer to specific referents in the social context.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
