Abstract
During the last decades of the 19th century the religious issues gained political valence, both at the international level and within the Bulgarian territories. In Macedonia, from the mid ’70s until the mid ‘90s of the 20th century, the unionist movement gained a positive development related to the contracts between the Bulgarian autocephalous church and the Greek Patriarchate. Nevertheless, after the concession of the berāt to the eparchies of Ohrid and Skopje, thanks to which the positions of Esarcate were consolidated, the hopes concerning the success of the unionistic movement grew dim. The contrasts, at the beginning of the 20th century, between the Catholic hierarchy of Greek-Slavonic rite and the Apostolic Delegation from Constantinople contributed to a further reduction of the number of the united believers. The defeats previously suffered by Bulgaria due to the Balkan wars and then at the later stage with the first world war, pointed out the importance of the issue of the new administrative organization of the Catholic Church of Greek rite and dashed any hope concerning the growth of the movement.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
