A personal view on the past, present and future of chemometrics from member researchers of the EUCheMS study group on chemometrics is presented. Discussion is focused on the role of the discipline within the framework of analytical chemistry (also taking into account its historical development) and on the presentation of key concepts (such as latent variables, resolution etc.).
