Abstract
At the beginning of the XXIth century anniversaries have occurred, which marked the centennial of capital events in international history going from the end of the so-called splendid isolation up to the First World War, including the Anglo-Japanese alliance and the Russo-Japanese war. All that has led historians to visit the broader subject again of the origins of the First World War in the framework of the rise of non European powers which took part eventually in the international equilibrium on world scale before 1914. Moreover additional factors like the partial opening of former tsarist archives after the end of the Cold War have added more appeal to such occasion. This study tries to review some learned essays which have appeared in the above connection, challenging or revising views or constructions of the older historiography. Moreover the analysis is taken against the background of the works of authors like Keith Neilson and Keith Wilson who at the close of the last century gaI documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
