This paper describes new three dimensional experiments aimed at reproducing water waves generated by subaerial landslides sliding down the flank of a conical island. The experimental results can be used as benchmark for theoretical and numerical models as the landslide and the island shapes can be easily reproduced. Furthermore the experimental findings can be considered to be of practical interest as they allow insight about the height of the wave run-up occurring around the island, a crucial point for the preparation of evacuation maps and for the set up of early warning systems. © 2009 World Scientific Publishing Co. Abstract
