A study on phosphorus release- sorption dynamics was conducted in the shallow mesotrophic Lake Trasimeno. Aerobic, anoxic, static and mixed tests and sequential extractions on sediments samples were carried out in order to investigate conditions and parameters influencing this nutrient release into the overlaying water. The most clay and calcareous nature of the lake favors P adsorption on sediments. However, is the wind- action to represent the main factor contributing to the P balance and equilibrium in this freshwater ecosystem: resuspended particles increase surface area in contact with water and likely become a support for P compounds, which can be readsorbed on them. It can be concluded that the wind disturbance contributes to the maintenance of the quality and the trophic state of Lake Trasimeno.

Abstract
It can be concluded that the wind disturbance contributes to the maintenance of the quality and the trophic state of Lake Trasimeno.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
